For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay about a course that has impressed you most in college. You should state the reasons and write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.English is one of the required courses in all colleges and universities across the country. While quite a number of students think they are forced to take it—merely for College English Test, I study it for the purposes other than the examination itself. I should admit that English is the course that has impressed me most in college.

I cling to the idea that the practical value of English is a strong motivator. In the first place, English adds greatly to convenience and comfort of my life. For instance, as nearly all information on the Internet and over half the world’s technical and scientific periodicals are in English, a good command of English willfacilitate my work. In the second place, good English also means chances and opportunities. With growing foreign investment in China, English, as the language of international business, plays a vital role in one’s career.

Over years, it is the prospect of the usefulness of English course that inspires me to study it hard.

英语在全国所有专科院校及大学中都是必修课之一。尽管相当多的学生认为他们只是为了应付大学英语考试被迫选择英语课，但我学习它是为了考试之外的目的。我应该承认英语是在大学里令我印象最深的一门课。

我认为英语的实用价值是一个强烈的动力。一方面，英语给我的生活极大地增加了方便和舒适。例如，由于几乎所有互联网上的信息和超过半数的世界科技期刊都是英语版本的，良好掌握英语将方便我的工作。其次，英语良好也意味着更多的机会。随着外商在中国投资的不断增加，作为国际商务语言的英语将在个人职业生涯中发挥重要作用。

多年来，正是英语课实用性的前景激励我努力学习它。
