So Rob, help yourself to a biscuit. I know how much you love them, so I bought some for us to share today.

Rob
Oh right. That's very kind, Feifei, but very odd. You don't normally buy me things.

Feifei
你说说你这个人—我给你买饼干吃，你不但不谢谢我，还疑心重重。

Rob
Are you feeling guilty? Have you done something wrong?

Feifei
Of course not! Well… sort of. I hope you don't mind, but I used up all your coffee when I made drinks for the team this morning.

Rob
What?! You used up all my coffee – and you didn't make me one? That really takes the biscuit!

Feifei
I haven't taken any biscuits! 我可没动你的饼干，就是喝完了你的咖啡。

Rob
No, Feifei! When I say someone really takes the biscuit, I mean what you have done is really surprising, annoying or sometimes just silly.

Feifei
Oh dear, so you're not happy? 原来，“take the biscuit” 和饼干没有关系。如果一个人 “takes the biscuit”，那么此人的行为就让我们感到非常惊讶、甚至极其反感。我用 Rob 的咖啡给大家每人冲了一杯，结果把他的咖啡用完了，Rob 觉得我这个行为非常不好。Sorry, Rob. Let's hear some examples while you calm down.

Examples

OK, Rob. You're really taking this badly. Pass them over here then and I'll eat them…

Rob
…Oh crumbs, I've dropped them – sorry!

Feifei
It looks like I won't be taking any of my biscuits today! Come on, Rob. I'll buy you a coffee.
